At 21 years old, Colombian skater Gabriela Isabel Rueda will have the honor of being the face of the World Speed ​​Skating Championships that will be held between November 6 and 13 in Ibagué, the capital of Tolima.

An integral skater, known for her discipline because, at her young age, she has achieved everything she set out to do since she was little; a successful career in sports that has given her everything.

Gabriela was born in Bogotá on September 13, 2000, and from the age of 9, she showed her skills with skates. Soon, she began her training in the Bogotá Skating League with the Tequendama Club, one of the most traditional Colombian wheels under the direction of Anwar Cárdenas, and, with her process in the different categories, she was getting attention.

In 2017, she took a big step by obtaining for the first time a spot in the Colombian National Team, an opportunity to which she responded by achieving a gold medal in the 20.000m junior elimination of the World Skating Championships held at the World Roller Games, which were held in Nanjing, China.

That first podium cemented her athletic career and participation in the world championships, which she would continue in 2018 at the events in Heerde and Arnhem, Netherlands, where she won a gold medal 1,000m two silvers 500m + d and relays and one bronze 20,000 elimination.

In that same year of 2018, she would become the first youth Olympic speed skating champion. A milestone for this sport that, for the first time, was on the program of these Olympic Games that were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 

Rueda won the gold medal in the omnium, a modality that had three trials: 1000 meters, 5000 meters points + elimination, and 500 meters + distance, winning the first Olympic medal in the history of world skating.

In 2019, she competed in her first world championship in the senior category. At the World Roller Games in Barcelona, ​​Gabriela Isabel Rueda added another world title to her list by winning the relay event.

Today, her goals are focused on the Pan American Youth Games in Cali and the World Speed ​​Skating Championships in Ibagué, Tolima, where she will once again wear the colors of the Colombian flag, with the desire to continue forging her legacy in her country.
